Midwest Central Alum Spotlight - Karsyn Skaggs

Karsyn graduated in 2024 and went to Spoon River to continue her education and softball career. She has reached her final semester at SRC, on track to graduate with a 4.0. After graduation, she plans on going to SIUE to get her bachelor’s in Criminal Justice. Her ultimate goal is law school. We are so proud of you!!

The Freshman Raiders pick up a big 47-44 win over Havana in a nail-biter at home! Defense was the key factor as they forced 25 turnovers in a physical battle. With the game on the line late in the 4th quarter, Johnny McFarland came through with a clutch basket, and Colton Watts sealed the victory by knocking down a free throw in the closing moments. Huge plays when it mattered most! A great team effort by the Raiders!

On Saturday, all three of the Raiders boys basketball teams traveled to Princeville for some competitive basketball games. In the opener, the MC Freshman played great team basketball to pull away with a 46-35 victory. Johnny McFarland had a complete game with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Jake Hunter also added 11 points as the win pushed the Freshman Raiders record to 6-2. The JV game was a battle from the start, and the Raiders were down 1 after 3 quarters, but a big 4th quarter was the key to the Raiders 40-34 victory. Cade Brotherton was solid all night on both ends of the court and finished with 12 points. Jaxson Robinson contributed a couple of big 3 pointers in the 4th quarter to also finish with 12. The JV Raiders are now 9-4 on the season. In the nightcap, the Raiders battled throughout, but a hot shooting 3rd quarter by the Princes was too much to overcome as the Raiders fell 61-50. Brenden Carton continued his hot shooting with 7-15 from deep and finished with a career high 22 points. Joe Proehl also kicked in 10 points on 4-7 from the floor. With the loss, the Raiders record now sits at 11-8, as Bushnell-Prairie City comes to Manito on Friday for the annual Homecoming game.

Raiders Wrestling headed to Leroy’s Randy Bowman Invitational where the competition was just as brutal as the temperature outside! Bocephus Schnoor had a tech-fall and a win by pin for the day. Jesse Jones gave it his all on the mat securing two pins. Kamden Merrill collected a tech-fall and three pins for 5th place! Richard Gilmore added two pins to his season to earn 4th place! This wraps up the regular season for the wrestlers as they prepare for regionals next Saturday.

Prior to the Mt. Pulaski home basketball game on Friday night, Midwest Central celebrated their former players by hosting the annual alumni basketball game. Players from 1995-2024 participated in a well played game with over 60 points being scored.   Players Left to Right are as follows: Brady Askins, Andy Battey, Michael Berg, Peyton Little, Ian Gaskill, Jason Proehl, Brody Bernshausen, Dustin Friedrich, and Drew Canada.

The MCHS athletic department is very proud of our student athletes and the success that they have achieved this fall in the classroom. The girl's basketball team carried a 4.02 GPA in the fall semester! Four other Raider teams achieved a GPA over 3.5. Dedication to their Raider Pride. In and out of the classroom!

The Midwest Central Freshman Raiders picked up a strong 45–33 road win over Dee-Mack on Thursday night. The Raiders jumped out early with a 16–4 first quarter and never looked back, holding the lead in every period. Midwest Central’s defense set the tone, forcing turnovers and limiting Dee-Mack’s scoring chances. Jake Hunter led the Raiders with 12 points, while Evan Schmidt added 9 and Colton Watts chipped in 8. Balanced scoring and steady defense helped Midwest Central control the game and close out a solid victory.
