The Raiders defeated Olympia in thrilling fashion on Tuesday night as a midrange fadeaway from Freshman Joe Proehl was nothin’ but net as time expired in overtime. With the bucket, the Raiders escaped with an 86-85 victory over the Spartans. Shots were falling all night for both teams in the back-and-forth affair with Malachi Carroll leading the Boys in Black with 27 points. Proehl kicked in a career high of 22 points, 7 of them coming in Overtime, to go along with 5 assists, and Junior Brenden Carton was lethal from deep with 4 huge 3 pointers to finish with 14 points. Josh Dawe and Blake Molitor also both reached double figures for the Raiders balanced scoring attack. With the win, the Raiders are now 7-6 on the season and have a tough task ahead as 10-3 PORTA/AC Central comes to Manito on Friday night. Be sure to come out and see what is building in the program.

MCHS will be hosting an alumni basketball game at 5:00 on Friday, January 16, 2025, prior to the boys home basketball games vs. Mt. Pulaski. If you earned a varsity letter playing basketball for Midwest Central, Green Valley, or Forman, please attend for recognition of your contribution by the basketball program. Following the announcement of our former varsity players, there will be a semi competitive (with hopefully no injuries) game held between any alumni that can still hoop it up and get up and down the hardwood. We are looking forward to great evening of community and school pride!

The Raiders boys basketball team had a busy weekend ahead of Christmas break. On Friday night, the Raiders went to Normal Calvary and took care of business with two blowout wins. The JV team headed to break with a 6-0 record with no games closer than 15 points, but the bigger tests will be in January as the schedule toughens up.
Then on Saturday, the Varsity Raiders won 64-40 over Dunlap’s JV with a balanced scoring attack and stifling defense. In the nightcap, Stark County came out on fire making 9 of their first 10 3 pointers and built a large halftime lead. The boys in Black battled back to bring the game within 1 with a minute to go, but eventually came up short 66-62. The Raiders sit at 6-5 on the season and get a much needed break until they travel to Lexington on January 3. The support and enthusiasm from the community has been felt by the players and coaches and through more hard work and practice, big things are to come from the program later this winter.
