February is National Children's Dental Health month. To bring attention to this health need, I have been educating students during library time. Students at the primary school will all receive a bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss along with an informational sheet all provided by Delta Dental. Students also watch a video and have a coloring sheet to work on during library time. Students who did not have library due to the snow day, will receive their education and bags next week. The Miles of Smiles Clinic is tomorrow in coordination with our school's effort to educate children on dental hygiene. Thank you to Ms. Garman for her assistance!

Happy Thursday! Feels like I was just here writing last week's message...because I was! I hope your children were able to find some enjoyment and rest on their snow day. Our COVID quarantine numbers are steadily decreasing and we are pleased with that because that means children are in school. Our building temperate has remained steady and very comfortable, set to 66 but holding around 72 throughout the day today. Dental Health Week: Despite our snow day on Tuesday, we have proceeded with Dental Health Week. If your child was scheduled for Tuesday, we will make that up with them next week. Each student will be coming home with a dental kit. We would love to see pictures of your children practicing dental health at home. Please send pictures to your children's teacher and we will get those posted! Transportation: If you are dropping your children off in the mornings and you need to enter the drop off line, you must go to the end of the line which is sometimes all the way out on Southmoor Avenue. If you try to enter the line in the lot, this often creates a barricade in our lot and everyone is stuck. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We have noticed our entry and exit procedures going much quicker which is our goal to get everyone in to a warm, learning center as well as get you parents on your way for the day! For Your Knowledge: The University Of Illinois Extension Office offers a plethora of resources for you to explore. Follow the link for local food pantry options! https://eat-move-save.extension.illinois.edu/#find-food-il Wishtree: I am enjoying this family read and watching the Wishtree and Bongo and all the animals bring friends together. Follow the link for today's reading: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q5F3lm6826SbJar4mV3QnI1huCSlS8Nd/view?usp=sharing Upcoming events: February 22-26 FFA Canned Food Drive March 5: Half day Early Dismissal and 11:40am Have a great end to your week and weekend! Good afternoon! It has been a fun-filled spirit week at the Primary School with dress-up days and plenty of sharing of kindness and love. I continue to be so grateful to see your children daily and we are so fortunate to be learning in-person. We have taken a couple weeks of COVID-hits now, and though we know this will continue to be possible and is unpleasant, we are staying optimistic and being cautious in monitoring illness while also being conservative in our tracing efforts. We will do our best to exclude the least amount of students possible. We spend a lot of time measuring how long a positive individual was actually with other peers or adults to make sure that we do not exclude anyone unnecessarily. I sure hope you all have enjoyed the Wishtree so far and below is the latest audio: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UgDmsERqfKKkXBFGBVNJwVuVtghaKEzo/view?usp=sharing **Very important transportation info** If you are picking your children up in the drive-thru pick up lane, you must retrieve them from the sidewalk in front of the building. We have many that are walking off campus as though they are walking home and then getting into vehicles on the road. We are going to discuss this with students tomorrow and stop this completely as it is unsafe for the children on that busy, crowded road. If you park in the lot, you must walk across to the front sidewalk to retrieve your children. If you have someone else retreive your child from school, please discuss this with them as well. Thank you for your help in keeping everyone safe! Have a great weekend and stay warm! Sally Timm

The second grade classes have been working on writing directions to tell someone how to do something. Today students had guest visitors to try to follow the steps. Lots of laughs as they discovered steps they left out when making the perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Good rainy morning everyone, We are now 5 weeks back from winter break and are more than 100 days into this school year. We celebrated the 100th day on Tuesday and all joined in on the excitement of what is means to be practicing in-person school. We did take a couple of COVID hits to our quarantine numbers but still less than we have had in earlier parts of the year. We have been riding on a cloud with the four weeks of a COVID-free building, but we are also realistic in knowing that the virus is not gone. As always, continue to monitor symptoms and to keep your children at home when they are not feeling well or when someone in the home is awaiting a COVID test result. I hope that you are enjoying your family book read of Wishtree and if you have not received your book, please call the school and let us know. Copies were given to the oldest sibling in the building to bring home. If you would prefer to listen to the book, you can access the read aloud daily through Teacherease, Facebook, or class dojo. Here is today's reading, Ch 6 and 7: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JDjTN95--2Xkan1V6wLOJ2jKnaT1j3lp/view?usp=sharing Our building theme for February is We Are Kind. We are talking about the many ways to show kindness and PBIS is hosting a Spirit Week next week with the following activities: Monday February 8-Pajama Day Tuesday February 9-Crazy Hair Day Wednesday February 10- Decades Day Thursday February 11-Raider Spirit Day Friday February 12-Valentinte's Dress Up Day Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you need more details on this Spirit Week or on upcoming Valentine's Day parties. With pending colder temperatures and the potential for snow at this time of the year, we will communicate school closures with you through local news, district Facebook pages, and a generated phone call from Dr. Hellrigel should the need arise. Please make sure that your children have appropriate clothing for the very cold temps as well (coat, hat, gloves). No School February 15-President's Day Sign up for Preschool Screenings before February 18 if you have a 3 year old that you would like to attend. Miles Of Smiles dental clinic is February 19 and paperwork must be completed ahead of time so return that as soon as possible. Have a great end to your week everyone, and stay warm and safe out there! Sally Timm
